Venezuela and Austria established diplomatic relations on July 28, 1947.In October 2001, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela made an unofficial visit to the city of Vienna, in view of holding council with OPEC executive committees and OPEC Fund. On this occasion he was also received by Mr. Adolf Moser, Vice President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. At the Chamber of Commerce headquarters the Why Venezuela? Seminar was held in which 120 Austrian and Venezuelan companies participated and in which various Venezuelan delegates took part, such as the President, who gave a conference: Venezuela, a Country of Opportunity. This visit contributed to a renewed attempt at establishing bilateral relations between Venezuela and Austria.

Theft or loss of a valid passport must be reported to the police and a police report should be presented when applying for a new passport. Otherwise a passport is applied as normally. When reporting a lost passport to the police it should be noted that a report made by telephone and a registration number given  on the basis of that might not be adequate proof to the insurance company. The report can be made in person at a police station so that a report of the crime is available in writing.

Foreigners wishing to enter the country must present a passport valid for at least six (6) months, issued by a competent authority, and apply for the corresponding visa.

The Consular Sections of the Republic's Embassies and Consular Offices shall not issue collective visas without prior authorization of the Ministry of the Interior and Justice or the Ministry of Foreign Relations. The Consular Sections of the Republic's Embassies and Consular Offices shall only be enabled to transfer the visa authorizations received from the Ministry of the Interior and Justice within the country they are authorized to do so in, notifying the above-mentioned Ministry. It is the responsibility of immigration authorities at ports, airports and border crossings authorized for entry into the country, to stamp passports with the duration of the stay in accordance with the type of visa the person has been granted.

The national immigration authorities retain the right to refuse entry of foreigners due to events or circumstances which take place after the date of the consular visa or after the date of the passport issuance.
