Ideally located in the heart of Europe, The University of Freiburg is in southwest Germany, close to the borders of France and Switzerland. The Faculty of Engineering includes the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Microsystems Engineering.
The Department of Computer Science offers the following master's degree course:
- Master of Science in Computer Science Degree Course (2 years)
The Master of Science in Computer Science is intended for students holding a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Scienc
e, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent and having a good English and German proficiency.
Although some subjects are taught in German, it is perfectly possible to study the whole programme in English. Therefore, German proficiency is not a pre-requisite for admission.
The program has been accredited by ASIIN and offers a very flexible curriculum. There are few mandatory subjects and a lot of electives.
It is also a very practical program. In addition to lectures and tutorials, students will complete two seminars, one or two projects and the master thesis.
After having completed two key courses (Software Engineering, Databases and Information Systems, Algorithm Theory, Computer Architecture, Pattern Recognition or Artificial Intelligence) students will specialize in one of the following three areas:
- Cognitive Technical Systems
- Information Systems
- Cyber-Physical Systems
In the last semester, students work on their master’s thesis. They are expected to tackle an actual research question in close cooperation with a professor and his/her staff.
