OverviewThurber has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Abbotsford, British Columbia
.
Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.
Responsibilities- Project management of geotechnical projects;
- Prepare and write proposals, fee estimates, and technical reports;
- Provide technical support and leadership on projects and for staff, including conducting technical reviews of calculations and analyses, as well as performing technical geotechnical analyses of stability, stress, deformation, and foundation response, utilizing a suite of software routines;
- Work with the Branch Manager or other specialists within the firm to identify and develop new opportunities.
- Provide guidance and support in coordination, preparation of cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports, progress reports, project scheduling / resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets on projects;
- Scoping projects and assisting in the preparation of proposals;
- Mentoring, coaching and training of staff;
- Establishing, developing, promoting and maintaining relationships with clients;
- Participation in field work as needed to meet project objectives and client expectations;
- Manage projects and lead multidisciplinary teams and,
- Travel to project locations, as well as to Client offices and other Thurber Branch offices.
- Completion of a post-secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering;
- Graduate Degree (M.Eng., M.Sc. or Ph.D.) considered an asset;
- Relevant experience in the Geotechnical or Geological Engineering field. Local Canadian experience strongly preferred;
- Specialized experience in foundation analysis and design is an asset;
- Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required;
- Strong attention to detail, organizational and interpersonal skills;
- An effective communicator with strong writing skills;
- Class 5 Drivers license and comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, resource road, and construction environments, in all weather conditions;
- Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites;
- Eligible for membership with EGBC;
- Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing);
- Experienced in the use of specialized geotechnical software; and,
- Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environments.
- $130,000 - $165,000 per year, based on a 40-hour work week.
- The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting.
- The offered wage may be adjusted upward for candidates whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting.
- Candidates with less experience and qualifications may be considered at a reduced starting wage.
