Business Relationship Director – Agriculture
Join us as a Business Relationship Director, part of the Northern Agriculture team. You'll manage relationships with large and small agricultural businesses and landed estates, guiding clients with their borrowing and purchasing needs to achieve sustainable growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing client relationships to identify financial goals, challenges and risk tolerance; analysing data from investment portfolios and cash flow.
- Researching industry trends, regulatory landscape and competitive environment to inform strategic recommendations.
- Designing customised solutions that incorporate a range of products and services from the bank’s portfolio.
- Communicating value propositions, negotiating terms beneficial to both client and bank.
- Providing guidance on financial decisions, investment advice, risk management and wealth management strategies.
- Assessing financial, legal and operational risks and implementing mitigation measures.
- Documenting all client interactions, transactions and agreements for transparency and auditability.
- Monitoring client satisfaction, revenue and metrics to evaluate effectiveness.
Qualifications and attributes:
- Ability to travel independently; experiences with rural client locations.
- Proven ability to build and maintain trusted, long‑term client relationships.
- Considerable understanding of the agriculture sector and its challenges.
- Self‑motivated, driven mindset, able to work independently while contributing to a regional team.
- Experience in preparing and facilitating events for clients.
- Excellent networking skills with stakeholders such as rural agents, accountants and solicitors.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of government policies affecting agriculture.
- Background in finance or banking; experience managing client accounts.
- Demonstrable lending experience, ideally within an agricultural industry.
Optional but desirable extra skills:
- Experience setting strategy and driving requirements for team resources.
- Leadership behaviours of listening, energising, aligning and developing.
- Data‑driven analytical solutions and risk mitigation.
Role location:
Aberdeen (Marischal Square) or Edinburgh (Princes Street); both require regular travel to rural client sites.
