Due to the continued growth of the preservation industry and a shortage of qualified surveyors, we are now welcoming applications for trainee roles from those with related experience. If you’ve worked in property management, home improvement, or have come through a trade or construction-related apprenticeship, we’d like to hear from you. We’re looking for individuals with a can‑do attitude, a willingness to learn, and an interest in buildings.

Full training and a structured pathway to become a qualified Preservation Surveyor will be provided. Call us for an informal chat about how we could work together.

In business for 90 years Richardson & Starling have grown to become the largest building preservation contractor in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK. We offer a comprehensive range of property preservation and repair services to property owners, building professionals, local businesses and local authorities.

Due to continuing contract wins we are looking to expand our surveying capacity in Aberdeen with the addition of a Trainee Surveyor
.

Full Time/Permanent

Monday to Thursday 08:00am to 17:00pm & Friday, 08:00am to 16:00pm.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
Competitive.

Job Description
  • Shadow and assist experienced surveyors during property inspections across domestic, commercial, and social housing projects.
  • Support in gathering information to help compile reports and quotations.
  • Learn how to assess building defects and recommend appropriate preservation solutions.
  • Receive training in company systems, products, and customer service standards.
  • Build confidence in speaking with clients and colleagues, with support from your mentor.
  • Progressively take on more responsibility as your knowledge and experience grows.
Knowledge, Experience & Requirements
  • Previous construction experience preferred.
  • Willingness to learn, take instruction and learn on the job.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good level of IT knowledge and willingness to become familiar with Word, Excel, and our in-house drawing package.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Being able to work as part of a team.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
