The Role

Reporting to the Regional Asset Integrity Manager (Mechanical and Civils) as the principal corrosion engineering specialist for the Scotland and North (S&N) region Asset Integrity Team, you will provide subject matter expertise to the OPEX and CAPEX Programmes within the Region.

Focusing on Asset Risk Management through:

  • Corrosion, Cathodic Protection and Inhibition - Assessment and Management for the Region’s Operations Team across all Existing and Future Infrastructure.
  • Providing Materials Selection, Cathodic Protection, Lining, Coating and Inhibition support to Capital Project Teams.
  • Ensuring compliance with international, corporate and regulatory standards, policies and codes, and acting as the Region’s Corrosion / Cathodic Protection / Materials / Inhibition focal point for outside suppliers, vendors and regulatory bodies.
What You'll be Doing
  • Operate as the S&N Region’s Principal Corrosion Engineering focal point.
  • Provide specialist Corrosion, Cathodic Protection, Materials & Inhibition Engineering support to the region’s Operations and Projects Teams.
  • Develop and review Corrosion Management and Control Strategies for new & existing assets.
  • Conduct audits & root cause analyses.
  • Specify and assess the results of detailed inspections & testing.
  • Monitor and manage the region’s corrosion risk and ensure asset integrity.
  • Participate in internal and external working groups to develop, review, and implement policies, procedures, and specifications, driving continuous improvement.
  • Operate within the UK Regulatory Framework;
    National Gas Standard Policies, Process and Procedures; adopted Industry Standards and Best Practice.
  • Provide corrosion engineering input to formal maintenance deferral assessments.
  • Support continuous improvement by leveraging digital tools and data analytics for corrosion monitoring and reporting.
  • Lead the drafting and maintenance of Gas Transmission procedures, specifications, engineering instructions, and safety bulletins related to corrosion management.
  • Provide expert technical input to resolve corrosion-related technical queries and deviations, escalating issues where necessary.
  • Develop investment strategies and scopes to support OPEX asset management plans, maintaining ownership of scope changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide corrosion engineering input to formal process safety assessments, quality & inspection activities, design reviews, and environmental engineering assessments.
  • Challenge and review design options at key investment milestones to ensure optimal corrosion management strategies.
  • Lead the development and approval of CP designs, coating specifications, and corrosion risk assessments.
  • Provide engineering discipline input to formal process safety assessments, quality & inspection activities, design reviews, and environmental engineering assessments.
  • Support commercial activities by providing informed buyer input for contract documents, Works Information, project scopes, tender events, and evaluations.
  • Develop investment strategies and scopes to support CAPEX asset management plans, maintaining ownership of scope changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Undertake medium level low-complexity G35 appraisals.
  • Provide engineering discipline input to factory/site inspection, testing, and commissioning activities, including validation surveys (e.g., CIPS, DCVG, AC monitoring).
  • Review and acceptance of project documentation, commissioning, and handover records in line with T/PM/G/35 requirements.
  • Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers and provide leadership within the corrosion discipline.
  • Capture lessons learned, best practice, and innovation to drive efficiencies in corrosion control solutions.
