The post holder will play a key role in Technip
FMC renewables product development directly for the Dynamic Inter Array Cable System (DIAC) for Floating Offshore Wind and it is expected they will work closely with New Energies.
This role is placed in a dedicated Research & Development team with a strong technical focus - the development and maintenance of MV/HV submarine cable products and power cable elements in hybrid power umbilical products.
In general, the Research & Development function at Technip
FMC is responsible for the development of Umbilical and Power Cable products and their components providing focused niche technical guidance in Polymers, Metallurgy, Electrical Engineering, Cable/Umbilical Handling and Product Analysis; we contribute to the direction, co‑ordination and implementation of the development of Technip
FMC products.
The role can be based in Newcastle, Aberdeen or Dunfermline.
Job PurposeWe are seeking a Electro‑Thermal Analysis Specialist - MV/HV Cables to join our R&D team.
An expert in electro‑thermal analysis and responsible for developing, maintaining and verifying electro‑thermal calculation strategies, methodologies and tools along with their associated documentation for Technip
FMC MV/HV submarine cable products for offshore wind and power cable elements in hybrid power umbilical systems. Responsible for conducting electrical, thermal, and coupled electro‑thermal studies and related R&D projects to support business objectives, providing technical support and guidance across the R&D function and to other teams, where appropriate. Working closely with other members of the R&D team to strengthen the company’s position in the marketplace, reduce costs, improving quality and increase its product and capabilities portfolio.
- At expert level providing technical leadership and services regarding electro‑thermal analysis for the MV/HV cable product groups. This may include but is not limited to:
- Leading, managing, delivering and documenting specific R&D projects.
- The development and maintenance of cable rating strategies and methods.
- Setting standards for technical reports and documentation.
- Conducting appropriate scientific calculations and analysis studies.
- Liaising with internal & external clients and suppliers (as appropriate).
- To provide technical support and guidance to the wider R&D team and others (as appropriate) throughout the life cycle of the product, including but not limited to:
- Technical risk identification and client specification reviews.
- Non‑conformances / Design rule and project concessions.
- Complex client technical queries/ calculation/analysis requests.
- Responsible for supporting, and where appropriate leading, the development and integration of new technologies, templates, calculations and tools to improve efficiency and quality.
- On job training and mentorship of engineers at all levels.
- Where appropriate and as directed, take actions to comply with the group/team expectations to meet their objectives.
- Degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline – preferably Electrical Engineering or Physics; a Mechanical Engineering degree for candidates with suitable post‑graduate experience will also be considered.
- Extensive relevant experience in electromagnetic and thermal analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), analytical methods, and multi‑physics simulations, specifically for high voltage cable applications using industry‑standard software (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS) or proprietary…
