SSEN Transmission are seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented HVDC Commissioning Manager, who will primarily focus on the Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) project (2 GW, +/- 525 kV bipole HVDC asset), to join our dynamic Transmission Operations team on a permanent basis.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the execution of all commissioning works for Peterhead Converter Station and EGL2 Cable System, ensuring full compliance with SSEN policies and industry standards (NESO STCP
19‑4 and CIGRE 697). - Provide expert guidance on HVDC construction and installation, managing commissioning programmes to identify risks, resolve schedule clashes, and approve project governance.
- Lead the development of energisation, outage, and contingency plans, liaising with internal teams and external partners (NESO, JV Partners) to maintain network security.
- Chair and represent projects at key Commissioning Panels (EGL2, HVDC Supervisory) to ensure robust coordination with wider National Grid and network activities.
- Oversee the Peterhead Site Commissioning team, managing resources, fatigue, and safety (CDM/ESQCR) including daily on‑site inspections and rigorous asset integrity checks.
- Deep experience in commissioning HVDC systems (Controls, Protection, Valves) and 400 kV Transmission infrastructure, including witnessing OEM quality documentation.
- In‑depth understanding of UK Transmission & Distribution businesses, including the statutory, health & safety, and licensing requirements of a Transmission Operator.
- Proven ability to manage high‑performing teams and maintain strong relationships with critical contract partners and diverse internal stakeholders.
- A track record of delivering complex installation and commissioning works under challenging timescales, with excellent communication and prioritisation skills.
- A valid driver’s licence and the flexibility to be site‑based at Peterhead, with further travel to UK and international partner locations as required.
