OverviewWe’re looking for a Data Network Engineer to take a hands‑on role in the full lifecycle of our network solutions. From initial design through to configuration, support, and ongoing improvement, you’ll be working across a diverse and evolving environment, enabling the secure and reliable operation of SSE Transmission’s growing energy network.
This isn’t about pulling cables or installing hardware, it’s about designing and configuring robust, fit‑for‑purpose networks that connect remote sites, substations, and control systems across Scotland. You’ll work with a range of technologies and have the opportunity to shape how we deliver connectivity in a critical infrastructure setting.
If you enjoy seeing a solution through from concept to steady state, and want to work in a team that values practical engineering, ownership, and doing things the right way, we’d love to hear from you.

- Support the development of network strategy as part of the wider OT roadmap, collaborating with suppliers to bring strategic plans into action.
- Assess network risks and shape practical mitigations, while exploring new technologies and approaches that strengthen resilience and performance.
- Solid experience in designing and configuring network solutions, with a good working knowledge of LAN, WAN, QoS, and firewall technologies.
- A strong understanding of network security principles and the ability to apply practical mitigations in real‑world environments.
- Clear and confident communication skills – able to explain technical concepts to different audiences and contribute to documentation, designs, or discussions.
- A methodical approach to problem‑solving, with the ability to turn ideas and requirements into workable plans, designs, or reports.
