Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist; Strabismus - UAE Private
1. Position Summary
The Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist (Strabismus) provides specialized clinical and surgical management for children with strabismus and pediatric eye conditions. The role requires a Western-trained, Tier-1 consultant able to deliver high-volume outpatient care and perform advanced strabismus surgery within a private sector environment focused on efficiency, quality, and patient experience.
2. Minimum Qualifications & Licensing RequirementsTier-1 Accepted Qualifications
One of the following (or equivalent):
UK CCT / CESR (Ophthalmology – Pediatric & Strabismus focus)
American Board Certification (Ophthalmology + Pediatric Ophthalmology/Strabismus fellowship)
Canadian RCPSC Fellowship
Irish CSCST
Australian FRANZCO (with pediatric ophthalmology training)
German Facharzt (Augenheilkunde – Pediatric/Strabismus)
3–5 years post-consultant experience in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus.
High surgical case volume in horizontal and vertical muscle surgery.
Experience in private practice settings is an advantage.
Eligible for DHA, DOH, or MOHAP Consultant License (depending on emirate).
Completion of Data Flow PSV and applicable authority exam/exemption.
Clinical & Surgical Care
Diagnose and manage the full spectrum of pediatric ophthalmic conditions, including:
Esotropia, exotropia, vertical deviations
Amblyopia management
Congenital and developmental eye disorders
Pediatric cataract evaluation (if trained)
Ocular motility disorders
Perform high-precision strabismus surgeries (horizontal/vertical muscle, reoperations, adjustable sutures if trained).
Conduct pediatric clinics, orthoptic assessments, and comprehensive pre/post‑operative care.
Work closely with orthoptists, optometrists, anesthesiologists, and pediatric teams.
Participate in case discussions and care‑pathway improvements.
Maintain excellent patient communication and family counseling.
Deliver efficient, high-patient-volume outpatient services.
Maintain accurate EMR documentation (e.g., Medcare, EPIC, Cerner depending on facility).
Uphold international safety, infection control, and clinical governance standards.
Expertise in pediatric strabismus diagnostics and surgical correction
High precision in ocular muscle surgery
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work in fast‑paced private ophthalmology settings
