The Senior Drainage Design Engineer will be responsible for leading the design and review of stormwater, sub-surface water, surface water, and related hydraulic systems for major road, infrastructure, and development projects. The role involves managing design deliverables, performing hydraulic analysis, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with Abu Dhabi authority standards.
This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to mentor junior engineers while delivering high-quality drainage solutions.
Key Responsibilities 1. Design & Technical Deliverables- Lead the design of stormwater drainage networks, culverts, outfalls, channels, and retention/detention systems.
- Perform hydraulic design and modeling using tools such as Infoworks ICM, Storm
CAD, Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or equivalent. - Prepare concept, preliminary, and detailed design drawings, calculations, and design reports.
- Develop drainage master plans for road and infrastructure projects.
- Assess existing drainage infrastructure and propose upgrade/improvement strategies.
- Prepare submissions and obtain approvals from Abu Dhabi authorities (ADM, ADSSC, DMT, EAD, etc.).
- Ensure all designs comply with local drainage regulations, design manuals, and environmental requirements.
- Coordinate drainage design with other engineering disciplines (roads, utilities, landscape, structural).
- Review contractor/shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide technical support during construction.
- Prepare scope of work, technical specifications, BOQs, and tender documentation for drainage elements.
- Ensure design delivery meets deadlines, quality standards, and project objectives.
- Conduct thorough QA/QC reviews of drainage models, calculations, and drawings.
- Ensure adherence to project BIM/CAD standards where applicable.
- Implement sustainable and resilient design principles, such as flood protection and climate adaptation measures.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and draftsmen.
- Support the Design Manager in workload planning and team coordination.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic design principles, rainfall-runoff analysis, and flood risk assessment.
- Proficiency in Civil 3D, Storm
CAD, Sewer GEMS, Infoworks ICM, HEC-HMS/RAS, or similar software. - Excellent ability to read, interpret, and prepare complex engineering drawings.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, authorities, and internal teams.
- Ability to lead design tasks with minimal supervision and strong attention to detail.
- Prior experience in UAE infrastructure and authority approval processes.
- Experience with major roads projects, tunnels, and large-scale infrastructures.
- Knowledge of sustainability principles and low-impact drainage solutions (LID).
- PMP or Chartered Engineer status is an advantage.
