Overview
The BIM/CAD Technician (Utilities) is a critical role in the engineering field, specifically focused on designing and managing the utility systems within construction projects. This position requires expertise in both Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) to create detailed and accurate representations of utility components. As a BIM/CAD Technician, you’ll work closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to develop and implement efficient utility designs for a variety of projects.
You will need to ensure that all designs adhere to technical, environmental, and safety standards while facilitating clear and effective communication among team members. This role plays a vital part in optimizing utility designs that are cost‑effective and sustainable.
- Develop and maintain detailed BIM models for utility systems including water, sewage, and electrical.
- Collaborate with engineers to create accurate CAD drawings based on project specifications and requirements.
- Ensure all BIM and CAD projects are completed within deadlines and adhere to industry standards.
- Coordinate with project managers to align utility designs with overall project objectives.
- Conduct clash detection analyses to ensure there are no conflicts in utility component designs.
- Prepare and update documentation for utility layouts, schematics, and system structures as required.
- Provide technical support and training to team members on BIM and CAD software applications.
- Implement feedback from project stakeholders to improve design efficiency and accuracy.
- Conduct site visits to gather data and validate the accuracy of digital models and drawings.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals and presentations concerning utility designs.
- Review and approve design changes proposed by team members ensuring quality and compliance.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of industry trends and technological advancements in the field of BIM/CAD.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
- Proficiency in BIM and CAD software, including but not limited to AutoCAD and Revit.
- At least three years of professional experience in utility design or a related field.
- Strong understanding of utility systems, construction standards, and relevant regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills to resolve design issues efficiently.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
