RINA is currently recruiting for a Railway System Engineer to join its office in Abu Dhabi within the Electronics and System Engineering Division.
MissionThe Railway System Engineer works closely with the designers of the railway subsystems in order to allow the successful development, integration and optimization of complex railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations across all project phases — from concept design to commissioning and maintenance. The role supports national and international railway programs, ensuring system-level coherence between rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems.
The successful candidate for the position of Railway System Engineer will join the RINA team in UAE in order to be part of an important railway project. His scope covers the entire lifecycle of railway projects, from concept to operation and maintenance.
Key Accountabilities System Design & Architecture- Define and manage system-level requirements and system architecture for railway projects.
- Analyze interfaces and interactions between subsystems (rolling stock, signaling, track, electrification, telecom).
- Support technology selection and configuration for new or upgraded rail projects.
- Ensure compliance with international standards and client technical specifications.
- Guarantee system interoperability across different technologies and operators.
- Manage integration of signaling, rolling stock, and infrastructure subsystems.
- Validate compatibility with national and international systems (e.g. ERTMS, CBTC, PTC).
- Coordinate system interface control and manage integration risks.
- Evaluate and optimize railway system performance in terms of capacity, reliability, energy efficiency, and maintainability.
- Contribute to operational simulations and capacity studies.
- Identify opportunities for system improvements and lifecycle cost reduction.
- Define and monitor execution of Verification & Validation activities according to applicable standards (EN 50126/8/9).
- Ensure conformity to system performance and safety requirements.
- Support testing, commissioning, and acceptance processes.
- Participate in design reviews, audits, and safety assessments.
- Support the development of upgrade, renewal, and modernization programs.
- Manage configuration control and ensure system traceability.
- Provide technical support during operation and maintenance phases.
- Contribute to asset management strategies to maximize system availability and lifecycle value.
- Promote the adoption of digital solutions (IoT, AI, Big Data) for predictive maintenance and performance monitoring.
- Contribute to the implementation of Digital Twin and Remote Monitoring technologies.
- Support system-level integration of Smart Signaling and automation tools.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- At least 5 years experience in one or more of the following domains:
- Rolling Stock:
Locomotives, EMUs, DMUs, High-Speed Trains - Signaling Systems: ETCS/ERTMS, CBTC, PTC, Interlocking
- Electrification: 25 kV AC, 3 kV DC, 750 V DC traction systems
- Infrastructure:
Conventional, High-Speed, Metro, or Light Rail systems
- Rolling Stock:
- Deep understanding of Systems Engineering principles (V-Model, Requirements, and Interface Management).
- Familiarity with CENELEC Standards: EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety).
- Knowledge of relevant international standards and regulations (IEC 62290, UIC, AAR, FRA).
- Experience with:
- Requirements & Configuration Management tools (DOORS, Enterprise Architect)
- Safety & Reliability Analysis (FMECA, FTA, Relia Soft)
- Simulation & Design (MATLAB, Simulink, CATIA)
- Understanding of project delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, V-cycle).
- Experience in large-scale or multi-stakeholder railway system projects.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
