Scientist, Microbiology – M42 Health Overview

M42’s Environmental Sciences (EVS) business unit explores the environmental and non-human factors that impact public health, combining cutting-edge analytics with scientific expertise. Through predictive wastewater surveillance, advanced industrial testing, and comprehensive environmental tracking and reporting, EVS delivers insights that inform policy, guide preventive strategies, and support healthier, more sustainable communities. As part of M42’s Integrated Health Solutions platform, EVS reinforces the vital connection between environmental stewardship and human well-being at both national and global levels.

Responsibilities
  • Advanced knowledge of microbiology, including automated/manual techniques, antimicrobial resistance, analytical systems, and quality assurance.
  • Experience in supervising lab services, managing staff training, competency assessments, and overseeing daily operations to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO, UKAS accreditation, LEAN principles, and laboratory quality management systems, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent ability to resolve technical issues, investigate incidents, monitor errors, and validate microbiology results.
  • Responsible for method development, validation, verification, report writing, publishing research, and developing new microbiology techniques and processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety protocols, hazardous material handling, autoclave room oversight, and maintaining laboratory best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, liaising between departments, chairing meetings, and acting as a link between microbiology and other teams.
  • Accountable for QC/QA, proficiency testing, audits, KPI monitoring, and driving improvements through training, mentoring, and collaboration.
Qualifications

Education:

  • MSc Biomedical Sciences: specializing in Microbiology and/or experience in an equivalent role. State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • Evidence of participation in CPD.
  • State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist / Technologist in Microbiology.
