Job Description
The College of Medicine and Health Sciences (UAE University) invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor of Bioinformatics and Health Data Science. We are seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking individual to join our esteemed faculty and contribute to the dynamic field of Bioinformatics and Health Data Science. As an Assistant/Associate Professor/Professor, you will be a key player in advancing our academic mission through teaching, research, and professional services.

The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in Bioinformatics and Genomics and/or Health Data Science, with expertise in areas such as AI, Big Data Analytics, and Machine Learning, particularly in the context of genetics and genomics.

Responsibilities:

• Teaching:
  Design and deliver courses covering Python programming for life sciences, Bioinformatics, and Data Science (AI, Big Data, and Machine Learning) in healthcare and public health. Engage students through innovative and practical approaches to foster a deep understanding of complex concepts.
• Research and Projects:
  Lead and collaborate on research projects in Bioinformatics, OMICS and Health Data Science, with a focus on Big Data Analytics, AI, and Machine Learning for genetics and genomics. Lead metagenomic and statistical analyses of data sets derived from Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data and other genomics datasets.
• Supervision:
  Mentor and supervise postgraduate students (MSc, PhD and medical students) in areas such as Health Data Science (AI, Big Data, Machine Learning) and Bioinformatics for genetics and genomics. Provide guidance and support to ensure the success of research endeavors.
• Publication:
  Publish research findings in high-impact journals, specifically in AI, Big Data, Machine Learning, and Bioinformatics for genetics and genomics. Disseminate research outcomes at conferences/workshops/media to contribute to the academic community and society.
• Academic Programs and Course Design:
  Lead and contribute to the development and enhancement of academic programs, especially in the areas of Bioinformatics, Genomics, Health Data Science and AI in Health and Medicine. Play a role in designing and refining courses to align with the needs, industry trends and government priorities, and technological advancements.
• Laboratory Management:
  Manage the Health Data Science laboratory, ensuring a conducive environment for cutting-edge research and student engagement.

Minimum Qualification:

• Obtained a Ph.D or Doctorate in disciplines such as Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Health Informatics, Data Science, Computer Science, IT, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in teaching and research in Bioinformatics and Health Data Science.
• Strong background in AI, Big Data Analytics, and Machine Learning, particularly in the context of genetics and genomics.

• Proven track record of research productivity and publication in reputable journals.
• Experience in supervising postgraduate students.
• Familiarity with academic programs and course design.
• Experience in scientific programming, especially Python language with applications to biological research and healthcare.
• Experience with Shell programming and UNIX/LINUX Systems.
• Broad knowledge of biology, especially genetics.
• Experience with large genomic data sets (Next-generation sequence, genotyping, or expression data), data mining, and data analysis.
• Initiation/implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of bioinformatics software.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
