Job DescriptionThe Staff Midwife (SM) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The SM will provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care to childbearing women and their newborns in accordance with the Midwifery Scope of Practice defined by the regulatory body. The SM supports professional nursing practice across all settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.
The SM will understand, support, and promote the mission, vision, and values of SSMC and will adhere to and promote the Professional Midwives Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Collects and analyzes assessment data, interprets findings, uses evidence-based assessment techniques, prioritizes patient needs, documents data, and identifies potential risks.
- Planning and Outcomes Identification: Identifies expected outcomes, develops individualized care plans, involves patient/family/team, monitors changes, and adjusts plans accordingly.
- Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery: Implements care plans, performs treatments and procedures per protocols, administers medications, documents outcomes, and communicates across levels of care.
- Health Teaching and Health Promotion: Utilizes teaching strategies, promotes breastfeeding and healthy lifestyles, seeks feedback, facilitates communication, and documents education.
- Evaluation: Evaluates progress toward outcomes, revises diagnoses and plans, documents reassessment, provides comprehensive handovers, attends rounds, and updates the care team.
- Evidence‑Based Practice and Research: Integrates current evidence, participates in research, shares findings, and engages in performance improvement.
- Leadership: Acts as a professional role model, supervises staff and students, advocates for patient rights, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, coordinates emergencies, participates in meetings, reports incidents, and plans patient education.
- Accountabilities: Analyzes complications, references appropriate physicians, upholds professional ethics, maintains therapeutic relationships, monitors safety, reports incidents, evaluates practice, manages cost and environmental health, complies with regulations, and oversees obstetric emergencies.
- Required Experience: 2+ years as a Midwife in a maternity hospital or appropriate setting.

N.A. - Educational Qualifications (Required):
- Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery or equivalent (minimum 3 years) OR
- BSc in Nursing or equivalent (minimum 3 years) and Midwifery Certificate (minimum 1 year) OR
- Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or USA (minimum 2 years) with successful completion of the National exam and Midwifery Certificate (minimum 1 year).
- Valid/current national license and BLS certification.
- Desired: NRP certification relevant to the specialty.
