What We Seek:

The UNM Foundation’s Finance team is searching for its newest Senior Financial Specialist. We are seeking a new team member who models a positive and supportive approach in their work and is detail-oriented in handling accounting transactions and tasks. A collaborative finance professional who enjoys working with financial data, maintaining accuracy, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. Reporting to the Associate Managing Director of Accounting & Payroll, the ideal candidate is highly organized, dependable, and takes pride in supporting the integrity of financial operations.

This individual will bring strong analytical skills, a customer service mindset, and the ability to effectively partner with colleagues across the Foundation and University while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

What We Require:

Under supervision, the Senior Financial Specialist performs basic accounting functions such as creating batches for payments to vendors, reviewing employee reimbursements, and recording daily cash receipts. The Senior Financial Specialist reviews submitted expenditure requests and credit card payments for accuracy and completeness of documentation and for compliance with Foundation and University policies and procedures. They prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, assist with quarterly/year-end close, conduct employee corporate card training, and may take on special projects as assigned.

The Senior Financial Specialist maintains confidentiality of financial, employee, and donor information.

The minimum education and experience required:

• High school diploma/GED.
• One to three years of directly related experience.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience.

What We Prefer:

We prefer candidates with experience in navigating financial systems, processing accounting transactions, and preparing accurate reports and spreadsheets. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, database management, and general accounting functions—including cash management, payroll, and accounts payable—are highly valued. Strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and with external partners are ideal.

Experience supporting audits and applying organizational policies and procedures is a plus.

Compensation Salary Range:

The expected annual compensation for this position is $50,000 to $53,000. This range is an estimate, and compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, consideration of any approved geographic salary differential, and alignment with internal equity guidelines to ensure consistency across similar roles.
