Excel is a high‑performance aviation services business that specialises in doing difficult things well. Since 2019 we have been working on our Excalibur project – a flight‑test aircraft created as a flying laboratory for combat air technology – as part of the UK’s Future Combat Air System (FCAS). Our team is growing rapidly across multiple sites, engaging in search and rescue, charter, capability development and aircraft maintenance.
The Role
The Station Engineer will oversee all operations at the 2
Excel hangar facility in Boscombe Down. Reporting to the Engineering Head of Maintenance, the role works Monday to Friday with flexibility for emergencies, unscheduled maintenance or project deadlines. Key duties include:
- Project‑manage all aircraft inputs, coordinating and overseeing base and line maintenance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders for modifications, role changes and flight‑test activities.
- Ensure the hangar and surrounding areas remain clean, organised and compliant with safety standards.
- Equip the hangar with the necessary tools and resources for aircraft operations.
- Supervise, train and evaluate hangar personnel, allocating tasks and ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
- Enforce procedures and protocols to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual hangar budget, monitor expenditures and ensure adherence to the budget.
- Prepare performance and operational reports as required.
You will be an experienced Aircraft Engineer holding a CAA Part 66 B1/B2 Licence, with the ability to hold a ‘C’ Licence. Experience or type rating on Boeing 757 is highly advantageous. You should have experience in a Part 145 base‑maintenance environment, and if you have modification and line‑activity experience that is desirable. You will serve as the on‑site point of contact, requiring excellent knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
Strong leadership, clear communication, and the ability to build rapport at all organisational levels are essential. You must also possess project‑management skills and a history of managing budgets, schedules and resources. A UK security clearance is required.
