Want to discover the genetic drivers of the heart beat? Join our team as a postdoctoral scientist. Apply now!
OverviewThe group of Dr. Harsha Devalla investigates fundamental mechanisms regulating heart development and disease, with particular emphasis on how heart rhythm is established at the cellular and molecular levels. We use state-of-the-art model systems including human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived cardiomyocyte subtypes and autonomic neurons, as well as 3D cardiac assembloids. We seek a molecular engineer for a project aimed at identifying genetic regulators of heart rate and rhythm.
CoreSkills & Experience
This role is ideal for candidates who bring a strong wet‑lab background in molecular cloning and genetic engineering together with solid computational skills for functional genomic screen design and analysis. You will build CRISPR tools, design optimized pooled genetic screens (e.g. Perturb‑seq based approaches), and troubleshoot the experimental workflows. Your expertise will combine cutting‑edge tool development, including molecular cloning, lentiviral vector and library design, and the computational analysis of high‑content transcriptomic and phenotypic data.
AdditionalResponsibilities
- participation in grant and grant report writing;
- teaching and mentoring interns and lab members;
- engaging in overall lab operations including maintaining inventories and creating/updating standard operating procedures.
- a PhD in molecular biology, molecular genetics, bioengineering or a closely related discipline with a focus on molecular engineering and synthetic biology;
- demonstrated expertise in molecular cloning, genetic engineering, and the design of advanced CRISPR tools, with clear evidence of developing or significantly optimizing CRISPR based technologies such as multiplexed gRNA libraries, vector systems or delivery strategies;
- proven ability to design, execute, and troubleshoot pooled and/or arrayed CRISPR screens in mammalian cells;
- strong computational skills in bioinformatics and data analysis (e.g. R, Python or equivalent) for genomic and transcriptomic screening datasets.
Moreover, you are passionate about science and have a meticulous eye for detail. You are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary collaboration, enriching the diverse expertise in the group. With strong communication skills, a team‑oriented mindset, and a proactive attitude, you thrive in a dynamic research environment.
