Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T)

Hours: 6.25 hrs per week

(Earliest start 9.30 / 10am – Latest finish 5.00pm)

Preferred days:
Monday / Thursday – however this is flexible

R.O.P: £13.73 per hr

• Provide social support and companionship to a 47 year old man who lives with Down Syndrome and Type 1 Diabetes. He lives with his family in the Largs area. Confidentiality is of utmost importance.
• Offer social support and companionship within the local community, ensuring continuity and consistency.
• Assist with access to the local community, including leisurely walks and meals; participate in activities such as visiting music venues, watching bands/tribute acts, and trips to Glasgow to visit record and guitar shops.
• Be friendly, with a cheery personality and easygoing nature; be calm, supportive, proactive and able to encourage in a positive way. If possible, share similar interests to enable engaging conversations about his hobbies.
• Occasionally work longer shifts or evenings to support travel to events or activities further afield.
• Assist with daily insulin injections (primarily at home, around meal times). The service user can read and monitor his own blood sugar levels, but may require supervision for administering insulin on occasion. Training required (can be provided by the employer).

• Experience of working with adults with Down Syndrome preferred.
• Driver preferred: current driver's licence, use of own car and business insurance. Travel mileage for work-related purposes is covered (rate included in wage).
• Wage rate includes travel allowance; mileage costs covered for longer-distance travel.
• Applicants will undergo a new PVG Disclosure at the employer’s expense and provide 2 reference contacts prior to appointment; relevant training will be provided as needed.
• 6-month probationary period with 1 week's notice within that time if the post does not work out.
