The post holder will be required to work as a member of the Community Forensic Adult Learning Disability Service within the Mental Health and Disability Directorate. The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team. The Post holder will be responsible for managing and independently providing a Trust wide highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service to an identified forensic caseload.
The post will also involve working with service users who are known to the Trust’s Forensic Service and who may require support with communication and swallowing difficulties. The post holder will be required to contribute to multi - disciplinary assessment and promote collaborative working practices within Health and Social Care and the Criminal Justice System.
This post has responsibility for providing specialist clinical assessment and advice, teaching/training, guidance, supervision and support to less experienced Speech and Language Therapy colleagues, other professionals, support workers and the independent sector. The post will require communicating and working closely and effectively with Health and Social Care, Educational Professionals, Criminal Justice System including PSNI and Prison Services, the independent sector, carers and service users.
The post requires highly developed interpersonal skills including empathy, negotiation and counselling skills.
- Be responsible for the planning and management of own specialist clinical caseload
- Provide Specialist Speech and Language Therapy input to multi-professional diagnostic assessment and management process for clients
- Hold a degree or qualification recognised by RCSLT and be a registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
- Minimum 4 years post-qualification clinical experience to include 3 years’ experience, working in the field of Adult Learning Disability
- Experience of working with Adults with a Learning Disability with a Forensic Presentation
- Ability to undertake a supervisory/mentoring role with staff and/or undergraduate SLTs
