This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical estimator to play a key part in delivering large‑scale decarbonisation projects, including district energy networks, heat‑pump installations, and fully integrated energy centres.

The Role

As Senior MEP Estimator, you will be responsible for developing accurate, detailed costings for a wide range of mechanical and decarbonisation projects. Working closely with preconstruction, design, contract management, and supply‑chain teams, you will help shape competitive tenders and support successful project delivery from concept to completion.

  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and design documentation to develop detailed material and labour take‑offs.
  • Input data into estimating software and internal budget templates.
  • Work closely with the commercial team and contractors to assess labour requirements and prepare associated costings.
  • Lead the development of enquiry packages, including technical scope documentation, for MEP and builder's works.
  • Manage supplier/subcontractor engagement to secure competitive quotations and prepare commercial comparisons.
  • Conduct commercial and performance evaluations for plant and equipment options.
  • Produce high‑quality budgets, BOQs, and pricing breakdowns using advanced Excel skills.
  • Attend site visits and meetings with design and preconstruction teams, both pre‑ and post‑award.
  • Carry out final commercial reviews before submission to ensure full alignment with the project scope.
  • Support handover processes and contribute to internal post‑award review meetings.
  • Perform additional estimating tasks as requested by management.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in mechanical estimating, covering high‑level budgets through to full tender submissions.
  • Strong understanding of labour, plant, materials, and equipment rates.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documents to complete precise take‑offs.
  • Excellent attention to detail and awareness of commercial conditions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
