RINA is currently recruiting for a Railway / Metro Telecommunication System Engineer to join its office in Genoa, Bari, Naples, Rome, Milan or Turin, Italy within the Civil Engineering Division.

Mission
As a Telecommunication System Engineer, you will contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of communication systems critical to the safe and efficient operation of transportation networks. Your contribution will involve ensuring seamless communication between various subsystems, including train control, signaling, passenger information, and other vital components.

Key Accountabilities
1. System Design and Architecture

Assist in developing and designing telecommunication systems, ensuring alignment with project requirements and industry standards.

Contribute to the creation of system architecture and specifications for communication networks.

2. Network Implementation and Integration

Participate in the implementation of communication networks, encompassing fiber optics, radio systems, and data networks.

Assist in integrating telecommunication systems with train control, signaling, and other relevant subsystems.

3. Radio Communication Systems

Collaborate in the design and deployment of radio communication systems for train-to-train and train-to-ground communications.

Contribute to ensuring coverage, capacity, and reliability of radio networks.

4. Fiber Optic Communication

Support in planning and implementing fiber optic communication systems for high-speed data transfer.

Assist in optimizing network performance and reliability.

5. Passenger Information Systems

Contribute to the integration of passenger information systems, including announcements, displays, and Wi‑Fi services.

Assist in ensuring accurate and timely information for passengers.

6. Telecommunication Infrastructure Maintenance

Support in overseeing the maintenance and troubleshooting of telecommunication infrastructure.

Contribute to routine inspections and the implementation of preventive maintenance measures.

7. Safety and Regulatory Compliance

Assist in ensuring that telecommunication systems comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Participate in safety assessments and audits.

8. Collaboration with Cross‑Functional Teams

Work closely with electrical engineers, signaling experts, and project managers.

Collaborate with stakeholders such as operators and regulatory authorities.

9. System Testing and Validation

Participate in testing activities, including performance, integration, and acceptance testing.

Assist in validating the reliability and functionality of telecommunication systems.

10. Documentation and Reporting

Prepare technical documentation, including system manuals, specifications, and test reports.

Provide regular status updates to project stakeholders.

Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic / TLC Engineering or Engineering General

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in telecommunication networks, radio communication systems, or critical infrastructure projects.

Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining wired and wireless communication systems.

Knowledge of telecommunication standards and protocols used in transportation, industrial, or enterprise environments.

Understanding of network architectures, including IP‑based networks, fiber optics, microwave links, and radio communication systems.

Experience with TETRA, GSM‑R, LTE, 5G, VoIP, and SCADA communication systems.

Proficiency in routing, switching, and network security for critical communication infrastructures.

Familiarity with RF planning, spectrum management, and signal propagation analysis.

Knowledge of redundancy, failover mechanisms, and cybersecurity best practices for telecommunication networks.

Ability to design and configure network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, base stations, repeaters, etc.).

Familiarity with telecommunication regulatory standards (ETSI, ITU, IEEE, IEC) and industry‑specific requirements.

Understanding of safety‑critical communication protocols in railways, maritime, and industrial applications.

Knowledge of RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety) principles for telecommunication systems.
