Cura Terrae Land and Nature’s archaeological team is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Post-Excavation Archaeologist to support a diverse portfolio of national archaeological projects. Based in Barnard Castle, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in post-excavation processes and material culture analysis.

About the Role

The role will include processing and preliminary cataloguing of finds and environmental soil samples, preparation of archaeological archives, and support with the administrative functions of our post-excavation services. Full training will be provided to ensure these tasks are completed in line with Cura Terrae’s internal procedures and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and provisionally catalogue archaeological finds and soil samples.
  • Assist in the preparation of archives and post-excavation documentation.
  • Maintain accurate digital records using Office 365 applications with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Produce artefactual and faunal quantification and condition reports.
  • Work independently with the support and guidance of the Post-Excavation Officer, delivering tasks to agreed scopes, timescales, and budgets.
  • Ensure all work complies with Cura Terrae’s policies, professional standards, and health and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties and training as reasonably required.
About You
  • Degree in Archaeology or a related discipline. A focus on a particular class of artefact or practical finds experience would be desirable.
  • Interest in archaeological materials and a desire to further specialist knowledge.
  • Strong organisational skills and a methodical approach to data handling.
  • Competent verbal and written communication and reporting skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles as needed.
  • A proactive and collaborative attitude to professional development.
