About the Directorate

The Assurance and Public Protection directorate ensures democratic accountability of council services. The directorate work together to monitor and ensure compliance and provide assurance of Barnet being an engaged and effective council that protects the public purse. They provide enforcement services that engage and protect residents and businesses to support a safer and healthier borough. These are place-based roles, which require officers to primarily work from Barnet Council offices in Colindale or other locations across the borough.

Senior Food Safety Officer

Are you passionate about protecting public health and ensuring the highest standards in food safety? We’re looking for a qualified and experienced Environmental Health / Food Safety Officer to make a real impact in our community.

What you’ll do:

  • ✅Carry out official food hygiene and standards inspections for Category C & D premises
  • ✅Ensure compliance with food safety legislation and the Food Law Code of Practice
  • ✅Provide expert advice and guidance to local businesses
  • ✅Prepare accurate reports and maintain statutory records
  • ✅Collaborate with colleagues to identify trends and drive improvements

What we’re looking for:

  • ✅A recognized qualification in Environmental Health or Food Safety
  • ✅Hands‑on experience in food hygiene inspections and regulatory enforcement
  • ✅Strong knowledge of the Food Law Code of Practice
  • ✅Excellent communication and report‑writing skills
