The Role
We are recruiting an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to join a specialist controls division delivering bespoke automation and MEICA projects. This is a permanent, hybrid role based in Barnsley, offering involvement across the full project lifecycle.
Projects range from large moving bridges and floodgates to heavy industrial and bespoke machinery, requiring robust, innovative, and safety-critical control solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Full lifecycle delivery of automated PLC / HMI / SCADA control systems
* Programming primarily using SIEMENS platforms (essential)
* Production of FDS, SDS, FAT, SAT and technical design documentation
* Electrical design using AutoCAD, including control panels, MCCs, and PLC systems
* Concept, enquiry, and detailed design involvement
* Attendance at client and subcontractor meetings
* Factory Acceptance Testing at panel manufacturers’ premises
* Authoring O&M manuals
* Preparation of estimates, tenders, and design specifications
* Keeping up to date with industry standards and best practice
Essential Experience & Skills
* Minimum 8 years’ experience as a Controls Engineer
* Engineering qualification to HND / Degree level (or equivalent)
* Strong experience with SIEMENS PLC systems (essential)
* Electrical design experience using AutoCAD
* Control panel and MCC design experience
* Experience delivering turnkey projects
* Knowledge of industrial control systems and electrical distribution
* Experience with Safety Related Control Systems (IEC 62061 / ISO 13849)
* Working knowledge of BS EN 60204 and BS7671
* Ability to produce and manage RAMS
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
