Role: EON Utility Solutions Apprentice – Power Engineering Cable Jointing and Street Lighting Installation, Service and Maintenance.

Location: Barnsley New Depot 1, Unit 6b Shortwood Business Park, Barnsley, S74 9LH

Salary: £15,348

Overview

We’re looking for EON Utility Solutions Apprentices to join our Lighting & Grid team as part of our UK Energy Infrastructure Solutions business. At

E.ON, we’re at the forefront of energy innovation, delivering sustainable solutions across various industries and investing in advanced technologies. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience while earning qualifications over a four‑year period.

What you’ll be doing

You will spend most of your time out and about from the local depot, learning all technical aspects of Utility Solutions. You will attend block‑release training programmes to gain formal qualifications, including trade skills such as plant operation and live electrical connections to the underground power distribution network. The role is hands‑on and requires working in site‑based environments including public highway and construction sites.

Training

& Qualifications
  • Level 2 Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering – Distribution & Transmission
  • Level 3 Power Distribution Engineering Cable Jointing
  • Level 2 Technical Training and NVQ Highways Maintenance Operative
  • Level 3 Technical Training & NVQ Highways Electrician
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs grades A‑C / 9‑4 (or equivalent) including Maths, English and Science.
  • A real interest in engineering shown by relevant work placements, studies, hobbies or projects.
  • A passion for safety and PPE requirements.
  • Team‑oriented with the confidence to work independently when required.
  • Applicants must have completed the minimum school‑leaving requirements and be 18 or older.
