Are you looking for the autonomy and close-knit feel of a local practice, combined with the stability, investment, and support of a well-established veterinary group? Barnsley Cortonwood Vets for Pets offers the best of both worlds.

Having proudly served the local community for over seven years, we’re an established and growing practice with a loyal client base, a varied and interesting caseload, and a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, compassionate care. As we continue to expand our team, we’re excited to welcome a Veterinary Surgeon who wants to grow with us and be part of our next chapter.

About

the Practice

We are a well-equipped, purpose-built in-store practice, designed to support gold‑standard clinical care and efficient workflows. Our caseload is varied and engaging, giving you the opportunity to fully utilise your skills while also developing areas of particular interest.

Cases are routinely worked up in-house, and we actively encourage clinical progression. Certificates and further qualifications are genuinely supported and funded, allowing you to shape your career in a way that suits your ambitions.

We also benefit from an excellent working relationship with Barnsley Hospital, providing access to referral services and a CT scanner when needed, which significantly enhances the level of care we can offer our patients.

You’ll be joining a friendly, supportive, and motivated team who value collaboration, open communication, and shared learning. We’re passionate about creating a positive working environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

Location & Lifestyle

Barnsley is a fantastic place to live and work, offering the perfect balance of town, city, and countryside living. The area is well known for its award‑winning markets, museums, and galleries, and is just a short drive from the stunning landscapes of the Peak District National Park.

For those who enjoy city life, Sheffield city centre is less than 40 minutes away, providing access to excellent shopping, dining, and entertainment. With free parking available at the practice and strong public transport links via bus and train, commuting is straightforward and stress‑free.

The Role

This role is available on a full‑time or part‑time basis, offering genuine flexibility to suit your lifestyle. There are no out‑of‑hours requirements, and Saturdays are shared on a fair rota basis, allowing you to maintain a healthy and sustainable work‑life balance.

Annual leave increases with length of service, and we also offer an additional day off for your birthday, because we believe it’s important to recognise and celebrate our people.

We’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with solid small animal experience, who is confident with sole charge when required and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team. Above all, you’ll share our commitment to delivering outstanding care to pets and their owners within the local community.

Your development is a priority at Barnsley Cortonwood Vets for Pets. Whether you’re interested in pursuing a certificate, developing a special clinical interest, or progressing into a more senior role, we’ll support you with structured development plans, funded CPD, and access to a wider network of expertise.
