Overview
We are searching for a skilled and motivated Design Engineer for a successful Mechanical Design and Engineering business based in North Devon. The successful candidate will design specialist packaging solutions used by Aerospace and Defence clients to transport and store high‑value, critical equipment.
Responsibilities- Design and develop detailed 3D CAD models and production drawings using Creo.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure designs meet functional, manufacturing and cost requirements.
- Interface directly with clients to understand requirements and ensure design solutions meet their needs and regulatory standards.
- Perform self‑checking and conduct design reviews to ensure performance standards are met.
- Identify and resolve design challenges, employing innovative and practical solutions to meet client specifications and manufacturing processes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of designs, including technical specifications, drawing revisions, and design changes; create and manage Manufacture Data Packs for larger programs.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, tools and best practices to continuously improve design processes and deliverables.
- Commercial experience in a Mechanical Design and Engineering role;
Mechanical Engineering qualification such as a Degree, HND, or equivalent commercial experience. - Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo, Solid Works, CATIA, AutoCAD) with experience creating manufacturing drawings from single sheet to large assemblies. Experience with Creo is preferred, but cross‑training will be provided.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials and manufacturing processes; ability to interpret technical requirements and demonstrate compliance through design work.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills; ability to identify and address design challenges effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients, suppliers and team members effectively.
