Junior Design Engineer – Solid Works / Mechanical Design

. Everything we do is designed and manufactured in the UK, combining precision engineering, creativity and practicality.
We’re now looking for a Junior Design Engineer to join our small but growing engineering team in Barnstaple. If you’re hands‑on, detail‑driven, and want to see your designs become real products, we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Be Doing- Designing and developing rugged case systems in Solid Works
. - Producing 3D CAD models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings
. - Creating data for subcontracted sheet metal fabrication
. - Generating CAM toolpaths for foam machining (Bsuite and Fusion 360).
- Helping to run our CNC router and supporting prototype builds.
- Getting involved in the full design‑to‑manufacture process — from concept to delivery.
- HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering
, Product Design or similar. - Experience using Solid Works (or another 3D CAD package).
- Understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerancing and manufacturing methods.
- Basic knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and engineering drawings.
- Keen eye for detail and enthusiasm for practical, hands‑on work.
- Experience with CAM programming (Bsuite or Fusion 360).
- Familiarity with CNC routers or foam machining.
- Understanding of design for EMC shielding.
- Knowledge of basic electronics — we often integrate equipment or simple circuits into our cases.
- Interest in rugged, defence or aerospace product design.
- Work on real, tangible engineering projects — not just concepts.
