Trainee Shop Manager
OverviewWe are recruiting a permanent full‑time (45 hours per week) Trainee Shop Manager for our store in Barnstaple, Devon. The role involves a structured 18‑month training programme leading to a Level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship and permanent employment upon successful completion.
Training & Apprenticeship- Initial training period working alongside an experienced shop manager.
- Support from your Area Manager during a period of running your shop.
- Approx. 3‑6 months into training you take full responsibility for your shop (subject to performance review).
- Work towards a Level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship qualification with Inspiro.
- Support with upskilling Maths and English (if required).
- Independent end‑point assessment at the end of training.
- A starting salary of £31,392.52, with a potential increase to £33,948.94 after 6 months.
- 30 days holiday per year.

- Fully accountable for your shop and ensuring that customers are looked after and shop routines are completed to maintain a safe, clean and tidy shop.
- Motivate and guide your team to be as successful and efficient as possible.
- Lead by example and engage in day‑to‑day tasks involved in running a busy shop.
- Control key costs including payroll, shrinkage and waste.
- Meet standards in relation to customer service, cash handling, health & safety, stock management, merchandising and presentation.
- Take responsibility for recruitment, training and development of your team.
- Friendly, positive, hardworking approach to work.

- Trustworthy and reliable – an important part of a small team.
- Organised, calm and able to remain composed in busy, high‑pressure situations.
- Committed to completing apprenticeship provider work on time and to a high standard.
