District Overview

Eastern Canada District’s projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. We serve the construction and mining industries and operate in Eastern Canada.

Location

This position is based in Toronto, Ontario.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the environmental compliance for a project
  • Identify, assess and reduce environmental risks to the company.
  • Develop and update environmental plans.
  • Perform and oversee field inspections and monitoring (water, air, noise, vibration, soils).
  • Identify wetland and sensitive environmental areas for protection in advance of construction activities.
  • Monitor, forecast and communicate environmental costs at the project level.
  • Develop and conduct environmental protection and awareness training to staff at all levels.
  • Function as a principal technical advisor and coordinator for environmental issues.
  • Coordinate with relevant crews on their work locations, material needs, quantities and invoices.
  • Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings avoiding and minimizing adverse effects to the natural environment and local communities.
  • Identify, document, report and develop corrective actions for environmental incidents.
  • Participate in project audits (both internal and external).
  • Prepare project and Kiewit required reports and communication of environmental risks to project management.
  • Liaise with environmental agencies and attend field visits with client and regulatory agencies.
  • Liaise with the clients; providing them design information, schedule details, quantities etc. ensuring they are aware of any unanticipated discoveries, critical permitting and compliance issues.
  • Review requirements and prepare proposals and estimates for new contracts.
Qualifications
  • Ability to travel and relocate as needed.
  • Undergraduate degree in an environmental science or engineering field, or related.
  • 10-15 years' experience managing design and construction environmental compliance for large construction projects.
  • Qualified Environmental Professional designation is preferred.
  • Experience coordinating a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience with specialist disciplines, plans, and permitting
  • Knowledge of soil and water contaminants
  • Knowledge of and experience with Ontario’s Transit Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario)
  • Knowledge of and experience with relevant federal and Ontario environmental policies, procedures and legislation
  • Experience liaising with other specialty consultants, contractors and governmental authorities
  • Experience with linear infrastructure projects in Southern Ontario, including experience in environmental compliance duties…
