Our Environmental Coordinators lead and oversee the environmental management practices of a construction project or of the district. Eastern Canada District’s projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind‑power plants, dams & industrial. We serve the construction and mining industries and operate in Eastern Canada.

This position is based in Toronto, Ontario.

• Lead the environmental compliance for a project
• Identify, assess and reduce environmental risks to the company
• Develop and update environmental plans
• Perform and oversee field inspections and monitoring (water, air, noise, vibration, soils)
• Identify wetland and sensitive environmental areas for protection in advance of construction activities
• Maintain project data tracking requirements
• Monitor, forecast and communicate environmental costs at the project level
• Develop and conduct environmental protection and awareness training to staff at all levels
• Function as a principal technical advisor and coordinator for environmental issues
• Coordinate with relevant crews on their work locations, material needs, quantities and invoices
• Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings avoiding and minimizing adverse effects to the natural environment and local communities
• Identify, document, report and develop corrective actions for environmental incidents
• Participate in project audits (both internal and external)
• Prepare project and Kiewit required reports and communication of environmental risks to project management
• Liaise with environmental agencies and attend field visits with client and regulatory agencies
• Liaise with the clients; providing them design information, schedule details, quantities etc ensuring they are aware of any unanticipated discoveries, critical permitting and compliance issues
• Review requirements and prepare proposals and estimates for new contracts

• Ability to travel and relocate as needed
• Undergraduate degree in an environmental science or engineering field, or related
• 10‑15 years’ experience managing design and construction environmental compliance for large construction projects
• Qualified Environmental Professional designation is preferred
• Experience coordinating a multi-disciplinary team
• Experience with specialist disciplines, plans, and permitting
• Knowledge of soil and water contaminants
• Knowledge of and experience with Ontario’s Transit Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario)
