The Opportunity
A seasoned and skilled Senior/Intermediate Mechanical Designer is sought to take a leading role in crafting high-performance mechanical systems within an advanced automation environment. Reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager, you will be instrumental in delivering innovative design solutions for custom machinery and robotic systems—driving the future of automated welding and assembly.
Position Description
Develop detailed design concepts for jigs, tools, and automated machinery using part data and GD&T drawingsSelect and specify components for mechanical assemblies that align with performance, safety, and cost parametersGenerate accurate 3D models, production drawings, and complete bills of materials using Solid WorksEnsure compliance with relevant safety and design standards, including OSHA, CSA, and customer-specific requirementsOversee and coordinate work with external design contractors to maintain quality and timelinesPerform load and stress analyses where necessary to validate design integrityMentor and guide junior designers, fostering technical growth and team collaborationExperience
5+ years of hands-on experience designing automated welding and assembly equipmentBackground in the automotive and automation sectors, particularly robotic weld cellsExpertise in tooling, fixture, and jig design for welding applicationsProven capability to take ownership of senior-level projects and transition into a design lead roleQualifications
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a diploma in Mechanical Engineering TechnologyAdvanced Solid Works skills with a strong portfolio of complex, production-ready designsPositive, can-do attitude with a passion for solving complex challengesDetail-oriented and highly organized with a disciplined approach to designStrong communicator and team collaborator who thrives under pressureDemonstrated leadership, sound judgment, and conflict resolution skillsFinancially astute with the ability to weigh design trade-offs and impactsHigh-energy performer who adapts quickly and works well under deadlinesWillingness to work overtime and travel when neededEducation
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology
