The Clinical Therapist is an integral part of a busy, dynamic and growing clinical program at Kinark Child and Family Services, a community‑based child and youth mental‑health program located in the Simcoe region. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will liaise with internal and external partners to provide clinical services, complete comprehensive assessments, and formulate individualized treatment plans. The role includes providing individual, family, and group therapy to high‑risk and complex children and families in office‑based and community‑based settings.
The position may require evenings and some travel. The Clinical Therapist position is covered by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.
Kinark offers a benefit that allows eligible roles to work partially or fully remote if opted in. This role is assessed as a Roamer position requiring a minimum of 2‑3 days in the office per week. The position is eligible for a compressed work week.
Duties & Responsibilities- Complete an initial comprehensive assessment, considering multiple layers of mental health issues, substance use, and medical conditions.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans.
- Develop a comprehensive formulation and treatment plan, integrating input from the interdisciplinary team and collateral sources.
- Provide evidence‑based interventions to youth and families, monitoring outcomes and modifying treatment activity as needed.
- Participate in full‑model DBT (or other evidence‑based interventions) including phone coaching and active participation in the DBT Consultation Team.
- Actively participate in the Competency‑Based Clinical Supervision model.
- Modify treatment activities and approaches as clients’ status changes.
- Ensure all required documentation meets accreditation, agency standards, and regulatory college requirements.
- Self‑monitor completion of progress/contact notes describing each client contact and its relation to treatment goals and policy adherence.
- Collaborate with other treatment team members and participate in interagency and team meetings.
- Master’s Degree in a Health‑Related Discipline with training in the controlled act of psychotherapy (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing).**
- Registered and in good standing with a Health Regulatory College, allowing the performance of psychotherapy as defined under the act.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience working in a mental health setting.**
- Excellent clinical assessment, formulation, and treatment planning skills.
- Significant experience delivering full‑model DBT strongly preferred.
- At minimum, some training and experience in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and/or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
- Experience providing a broad range of clinical services and demonstrated effective work with a child and adolescent population presenting a variety of clinically challenging issues.
- Demonstrated expertise in family therapy and advanced group skills with youth and parents preferred.
- Computer competency required.
- Experience working with diverse cultures considered an asset.
- Travel required; must have a valid Ontario driver’s licence, reliable vehicle, and be willing to obtain automobile insurance with a minimum liability of one million dollars.
