Furniture Merchandise Buyer and Inventory Manager
Location: Barrie, ON – On-site.
Salary: $70,000-$80,000 per year + benefits.
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent – Monday to Friday.
Travel: Up to 25% (vendor visits, trade shows).
Schedule: Monday to Friday.

The Opportunity: We’re looking for an experienced Merchandise Manager with a background in furniture or mattress buying to lead product selection, vendor negotiations, inventory planning, and market trend alignment. The role works closely with the President and senior leadership to ensure the right products are sourced at the right time and delivered to the right locations across Canada.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and evaluate vendors and products aligned with company needs and customer preferences.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and fulfillment schedules.
- Align purchasing with demand forecasts and product lifecycle planning.
- Maintain and evolve the product roadmap.
- Monitor inventory levels across locations to avoid stockouts or overstock.
- Optimize turnover and reduce carrying costs by analyzing movement data.
- Generate reports on order status, inventory performance, and trends.
- Use analytics to inform future buys and assortment decisions.
- Analyze sales trends and customer data to anticipate future inventory needs.
- Identify gaps and opportunities for new products.
- Conduct competitor research and monitor market trends, styles, and seasonal preferences.
- Collaborate with operations and leadership on product quality and availability.
- Must‑have: Minimum 3‑5 years of buying experience in the furniture or mattress industry; strong vendor negotiation skills; proven inventory planning and data analysis capabilities; proficiency with Excel and inventory tools (ERP, forecasting systems); highly organized with strong communication and decision‑making skills.
- Nice‑to‑have: Experience in a multi‑location warehouse retail model; exposure to trend forecasting and product lifecycle planning; overseas sourcing or large‑volume import operations.
- Have solid volume furniture buying experience.
