Job Title: Principal Engineer - Product Assurance

Location: Barrow, onsite (flexible by arrangement). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: circa £50,000

What you'll be doing:

  • Provision of independent safety assurance of the submarine products within the scope of supply
  • Provide Engineering assurance across products within BAE Systems Maritime-Submarines for applicable Submarine Enterprise programmes
  • Deliver assurance at design reviews and technical bid reviews to various stakeholders across the Engineering Functions, along with providing technical support to the wider Submarine Enterprise
  • Provide independent assurance on engineering products, to ensure that they are integrated, safe, fully compliant with the agreed requirements set, without compromising safety hazards which are demonstrated ALARP
  • Provide support in planning activities relating to applicable Product assurance activities, being aware of the resource limitations by utilising a risk-based approach
  • Support the Engineering leadership team with assurance activities, providing subject matter expertise to deliver the assurance requirement

Your skills and experiences:

  • Knowledge and experience of Safety Engineering on large projects
  • Experience of design reviews, audits, change management and issue resolution
  • Knowledge of the life cycle management system and engineering policies
  • Ability to communicate effectively using oral and technical reports

The team:

The Engineering Product Assurance Department (EPAD) delivers Level 3 assurance across all Engineering Authority delegations, including Submarine Programmes, Site Facilities and Specialist Engineering. EPAD oversees assurance activities such as investigations, design reviews, maturity assessments and major design, build and commissioning evolutions.

In this role you will review technical documentation and provide constructive feedback to confirm that maturity levels are met, designs are fit for purpose, investigations have identified true root causes, and that all company processes and standards have been properly followed. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
