Technical Service Specialist:
The Impact You’ll Have On The Organization and World

  • Drives innovation at the customer interface by tailoring product formulations and supporting new product development, directly impacting customer satisfaction and Bakelite’s market competitiveness.
  • Acts as a key technical ambassador for Bakelite across EMEA, strengthening partnerships with customers and enhancing product adoption through expert-level support and guidance.
  • Accelerates sustainable product solutions by focusing on environmental performance and compliance with national and European regulations, promoting both ecological responsibility and business continuity.
  • Leads the transition from development to production by aligning new PSR product implementation with manufacturing, quality, and safety standards at the Barry plant.
  • Supports business growth through technical excellence, enabling successful product introductions, optimizing customer processes, and reducing off-spec material issues.

Life in Barry: Barry is a vibrant seaside town located on the southern coast of Wales, just 9 miles from Cardiff, the Welsh capital. It offers a blend of natural beauty, historical charm, and modern conveniences, with several popular beaches, including Whitmore Bay. The town also offers good local schools, friendly communities, and excellent transport links, including a direct rail connection to Cardiff and the M4 corridor.

Does a Typical Day Look Like? Here are your primary responsibilities:

  • Independently visit PSR customers to define and support new development projects, test product performance, and optimize customer processes.
  • Resolve customer technical issues and provide expert recommendations to improve product performance or resolve complaints.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, legal, and commercial teams to ensure alignment on product solutions and development efforts.
  • Prepare and update technical documentation, including Visit Reports, Product Manuals, and Technical Data Sheets.
  • Deliver technical presentations and conduct needs analyses to identify opportunities for innovation and customization.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental legislation and advise on the implementation of safety changes, particularly at the Barry site.
  • Lead or support internal projects such as recipe improvement, raw material changes, product transfers, and sustainability initiatives (e.g., Barry Blue Print).
  • Performs research, development, testing and hands on laboratory work.

What is Needed to be Successful in this Role (Required Skills/Abilities):

Necessary (Required) Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Industrial Chemistry, Polymer/Materials Chemistry, or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in a similar technical field.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with resin applications or production.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Good working knowledge of:
    • Analytical chemistry
    • Chemical market dynamics
    • National/European environmental and safety legislation
    • Microsoft Office and digital documentation tools
    • Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Capable of working effectively under pressure and across diverse teams.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

  • Experience managing cross-functional projects across EMEA.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead customer-facing technical projects independently.
