H&P has been engaged by a leading Automation and Engineering consultancy within the Pharma and Biotech sector to find an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to join their growing team in Basel.

This is a hands‑on, senior‑level role for someone who enjoys both the technical and leadership sides of automation projects. You’ll start by taking ownership of system optimisation and validation work, ensuring systems perform reliably and meet strict regulatory standards. As you settle in, you’ll move into managing full project life cycles from scoping and design through to delivery and validation while supporting and guiding junior engineers along the way.

• Lead the design, programming, and validation of PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems in cGMP environments.
• Manage project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, and stakeholder coordination.
• Ensure compliance with GxP and 21 CFR Part 11 across all systems and documentation.
• Review and improve existing automation platforms to enhance performance and reliability.
• Act as the main technical contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and successful outcomes.
• Support and mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices.

• Automation and validation of Pharma and Biotech production systems.
• SCADA and PLC upgrades and modernisation initiatives.
• Integration of control systems with a wider digital manufacturing infrastructure.

• 5+ years of experience in Automation Engineering (PLC, SCADA, HMI development and integration).
• Solid background in the Pharma or Biotech sector, with working knowledge of cGMP, GxP, and 21 CFR Part 11.
• Fluency in both German and English, spoken and written.
• Experience leading technical work streams or small project teams.
• Degree in Automation, Electrical, or Process Engineering (or a related discipline).
