Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – Rare Diseases

Territory: Austria

Our client is currently looking for a Medical Science Liaison – Rare Diseases to join the team to develop the medical strategy for their existing and new products in Austria. Reporting to the Country Head and dotted line to the Medical Director DACH, the MSL is responsible for the implementation of the medical & scientific activities in Austria. He/she will lead and coordinate activities to inform and educate physicians, patient organizations, support staff, payers and any other relevant industry groups on Rare Diseases’ Haemato-Oncology portfolio.

The MSL must also support and comply with all relevant internal and external regulations, access, guidelines and policies at both local and international level.

This is a permanent position based in Switzerland with fully remote/field‑based work.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Establish themselves as an internal and external product and disease expert including treatment guidelines, protocols, trends, ongoing and planned studies or own and competitor products.
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests for scientific information as requested from customers.
  • Communicate and disseminate scientific information across internal and external stakeholder groups.
  • Ensure impactful customer interactions when appropriate (i.e., one-to-one meetings, group meetings, speaker meetings and symposia).
  • Deliver internal and external product and disease‑state training.
  • Monitor and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge on all products and companies’ activities relevant to the disease area.
  • Provide deep and advanced disease‑state and product information to all stakeholder groups as required.
  • Coordinate and engage in medical interactions with KOLs.
  • Organise specific events as required by the company—including KOL‑led workshops and symposia, advisory board and congresses.
  • Identify and develop potential areas of medical collaboration with KOLs.
  • Work with local, regional, national and international collaborative groups, guidelines committees as needed to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of product and disease‑state information.
  • Identify suitable publication projects through ongoing relationships with KOLs.
  • Identify, work up and propose relevant IIS projects.
  • Serve as the primary scientific contact with Health Care Professionals at a country level on the specific disease area.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for medical inquiries from healthcare professionals, patients, and other external stakeholders.
  • Provide timely and accurate responses to medical inquiries by researching, analysing, and synthesising scientific and clinical information.
  • Document and track medical inquiries in accordance with regulatory requirements and company procedures.
  • Review promotional and educational materials to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory guidelines and company policies.
  • Provide medical input and guidance to cross‑functional teams including Marketing and Regulatory Affairs during approval of promotional materials.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs to address any potential compliance issues and develop appropriate corrective actions.
  • Thorough knowledge of hospitals, KOLs, competitor activities, studies, trends, influencers, formularies, buyers, reimbursement providers across the area.
  • Develop, gain approval for and implement a territory plan and track it on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Take ownership of medically led projects as agreed with the Medical team and country‑business manager.
  • Represent the medical department at national and international meetings, congresses and symposia, draft and collate reports from relevant sessions.
  • Work in close collaboration with Key Account Managers in Austria.
  • Follow and always provide input to the policies and internal procedures and external regulations in alignment with regional/global medical and regulatory teams.
  • Be fully integrated within the DACH and global medical matrix.
  • Produce and implement an annual Medical and Scientific plan.
  • Track and manage expenses in line with the approved budget.
