About the RoleWe are seeking a motivated CHP Assistant to join our team supporting the operation and maintenance of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems across our district heating network. You will work closely with engineers and managers to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant performance of CHP assets. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a mechanical or electrical interest to grow their experience in a dynamic energy environment.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct daily and weekly checks of CHP engines and associated plant.
- Assist with parts collection and delivery.
- Provide 2nd man support during CHP service intervals.
- Maintain housekeeping within CHP enclosures and surrounding areas.
- Report any plant issues to the CHP Team promptly.
- Support hosting of external contractors, including AdBlue deliveries and SCR system maintenance.
- Perform basic tasks such as topping up engine oil and coolant levels.
- Assist with planned and reactive maintenance, including simple mechanical and electrical tasks.
- Prepare parts, tooling, and work areas for engineers.
- Support spare parts collection and delivery to ensure timely engine return to service.
- Follow all Health & Safety protocols, including isolation procedures and PPE requirements.
- Record work activities accurately in CMMS systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics or SAP).
- Maintain logs of operational data and maintenance interventions.
- Assist in preparing reports for performance and compliance audits.
- Support inventory checks and ordering of CHP spare parts as required.
- Assist the stock controller when necessary.
- Essential:
- Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.
- Basic understanding of CHP systems and a willingness to expand knowledge.
- IT literacy for CMMS and reporting tools.
- Genuine interest in engines, mechanical, and electrical equipment.
- Desirable:
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
- Gas safety awareness (for roles involving gas systems).
- Forklift or lifting equipment certification.
- Full driving license.
- Competitive hourly pay of £17.63 - £23.67.
