Location:
Anywhere in the UK — fully flexible, hybrid working
Industry: Power Transmission & Distribution
Are you an experienced Secondary Design Engineer looking for a role where your work directly impacts the future of the UK’s energy network? Do you want to be part of a growing, forward-thinking team delivering high-profile HV and EHV projects across the country? If so, this opportunity offers the ideal next step.
This organisation is expanding its Power & Utilities division and are seeking talented Secondary Design Engineers to help deliver major 132 kV, 275 kV and 400 kV substation projects. You’ll join a team working at the cutting edge of grid modernisation, clean-energy integration and transmission infrastructure — and you can be based anywhere in the UK.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of the secondary design scope for complex substation schemes, covering protection and control, SCADA/RTU systems, AC/DC auxiliary systems and all associated drawings and documentation. You’ll work with high-profile clients including National Grid, SSEN, SP Energy Networks, Electricity North West, UK Power Networks and Northern Powergrid, and collaborate closely with Primary Engineers, site teams and major EPC partners.
⭐ To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
* Solid experience in secondary design for HV/EHV substations
* Strong capability in protection, control, SCADA and auxiliary design
* Proficiency with CAD tools and ideally experience in BIM environments
* A good understanding of UK protection philosophies, SCADA protocols and LV AC/DC systems
* Familiarity with modern relays (Siemens SIPROTEC, ABB Relion, GE Multilin, etc.)
* An HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (degree or professional registration desirable)
You’ll be joining a supportive, collaborative engineering team that values expertise, innovation and professional development. Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll receive 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, a company pension and access to ongoing training, chartership support and wellbeing programmes.
If you want to work on some of the UK’s most important energy projects — and you’re looking for a genuinely flexible role where you can be based anywhere in the UK — this is a standout opportunity to take your career forward.
