Associate Structural Drafter Job Overview

The Associate Structural Drafter is an entry-level position completed with close supervision and support. The role follows clearly defined standard operating procedures and scientific methods, adhering to quality guidelines. The drafter should possess basic analytical or scientific skills and hold any necessary licenses or training certifications.

• Carry out design, fabrication, and/or installation drawings up to AFC level
• Assist the Structural Drafter in preparing discipline deliverables such as:
  • Detailed design drawings
  • Fabrication yard sequence and layout drawings
  • Part drawings
  • Assembly drawings
  • Nesting drawings
  • Piece mark and NDT drawings
  • As-built drawings
  • CNC data
  • Part/check templates to assist fabrication
  • Construction drawings
  • MTO preparation
  • Prepares, issues, and updates material and weight data take-off
• Implement prefabrication, erection methods, and DC reports information into shop drawings
• Maintain a drawing register for each project, cataloguing all issued drawings and sketches
• Ensure drawing quality per guidelines, unique drawing numbers, correct project references, scales, and client specifications
• Issue drawings/sketches only after review and signature by the authorizing Engineer
• Maintain all mark-up drawings and file them project-wise
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Manager or Section Leaders

• Minimum high‑school diploma; engineering degree preferred
• Education and/or experience with associated industry detailing standards
• Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, TEKLA, Pro Nest, Navisworks, and Revit
• Basic knowledge of industry codes and standards for structural design (API, AISC, ACI, ASCEa plus)
• Working knowledge of Inventor is a plus
• Competency in MS Office Suite
