Overview
This role reports to Maintenance and Tooling Manager.
The Plastic Molding Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing plastic injection molding processes to ensure high-quality production. This role involves troubleshooting molding defects, improving manufacturing efficiency, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet production goals.
Key Responsibilities Process Development & Optimization- Develop and optimize injection molding processes for new and existing products.
- Conduct mold flow analysis and design experiments (DOE) to improve part quality.
- Set up and validate molding parameters (temperature, pressure, cycle time, etc.).
- Troubleshoot molding defects (sink marks, warpage, flash, short shots, etc.).
- Collaborate with tooling engineers and mold designers to ensure manufacturability.
- Review mold designs and recommend improvements for durability and efficiency.
- Oversee mold trials (T0, T1, T2) and ensure proper mold maintenance.
- Ensure molded parts meet dimensional, cosmetic, and functional specifications.
- Work with QA teams to implement quality control measures (SPC, FMEA, etc.).
- Maintain compliance with industry standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.).
- Provide technical support to production teams to minimize downtime.
- Train operators on proper molding techniques and machine handling.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend upgrades or repairs.
- Analyze production data and generate reports on yield, scrap rates, and efficiency.
- Support cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Plastic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering
, or related field. - 3+ years of experience in plastic injection molding (medical, automotive, consumer goods, etc.).
- Experience with scientific molding and validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Strong knowledge of thermoplastics, resins, and material properties
. - Familiarity with molding machines and auxiliary equipment
. - Understanding of GD&T,
CAD software (AutoCAD, Solid Works), and Lean Manufacturing
.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
- Manufacturing plant with exposure to machinery, noise, and industrial conditions.
- May require occasional overtime or weekend support for production needs.
