Consultant Endocrinologist

This is a full time (10 PA) substantive post, but this is negotiable.

We are seeking a Consultant Endocrinologist, to join our dynamic team. We currently have 4 full time consultants, and 2 less than full time (6.2 WTE). This is a replacement post.

In addition to our consultant team, we have 2 Specialist Registrars, 1 Internal Medical Trainee, 1 FY2 trainee, 4 FY1 trainees and a clinical fellow. We are supported by a team of both Diabetes and Endocrinology CNS's.

The department covers the full range of diabetes and endocrinology, including:

  • Pump therapy and diabetes technology
  • multi-disciplinary transition service for both diabetes and endocrinology
  • multi-disciplinary foot service with one of the lowest amputation rates in the South West
  • multi-disciplinary pituitary disease clinics
  • multi-disciplinary endocrine surgery clinics

The department prides itself on being a centre of innovation and is committed to continuous improvement.

The team have won various awards and strives to offer some of the best diabetes and endocrine care in the UK.

The team is well established and believes in a collaborative approach to both diabetes and endocrine care, and has strong relationships with various teams in both acute and community sectors across the ICB and wider region.

The department is actively involved in several multi-site diabetes trials and we are actively increasing the research activity of the department.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual who will be an excellent team player, passionate about improving care for diabetes and endocrine patients and willing to embrace / lead new practices. We aim to be one of the highest performing centres in the UK and would welcome an individual that shares our ambition.

This job is a replacement post and the previous incumbent was lead for inpatient diabetes within the department. We have an excellent inpatient diabetes nursing team and the successful candidate will have an opportunity to work closely to develop this service. They will be given the time, resources and support to carry out this service development.

Job responsibilities

The holder of this post will be a Consultant with CCT in Diabetes and Endocrinology or within 6 months of achieving CCT.

The post will be based at the RUH and will include offsite working at community hospitals. The duties will include outpatient diabetes and endocrine clinics and foot clinics.
