As a result of our continued success and growth in the UK, we’re looking for full‑time Structural Engineers to join our team working on Nuclear New Build projects, specifically focusing on Nuclear Island buildings of Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C and similar projects. You will enjoy reinforcing your technical skills when working on the most complex buildings of a Nuclear Power Plant, cultivating strong working relationships in a multi‑cultural environment to deliver outstanding results for our clients.
As a Structural Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, integrity, and reliability of the nuclear power plant structures. You will be responsible for various aspects of the design and structural analysis of reinforced concrete or steel structures.
- Design and analyse reinforced concrete structures for the Nuclear Island Buildings of EPR nuclear power plants.
- Perform structural calculations and finite‑element modelling using ANSYS APDL or similar advanced software, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards such as Eurocode and related.
- Ensure the structural integrity and resilience of the reinforced concrete structures under various loads, including seismic, dynamic, impact of temporary works related to the construction sequence and environmental factors.
- Collaborate with the detailing team including drafting team, BIM Coordinator and other designer engineers, as well as the technical direction team to ensure coordination and integration of design requirements.
- Conduct calculations and structural assessments of design changes to determine the impact on the reinforced concrete structures and propose necessary design modifications.
- Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications and construction documentation for the reinforced concrete structures.
- Provide structural assessments and evaluations during construction and offer technical support as needed.
- Work closely with construction contractors and site teams to resolve any structural issues or challenges during the construction phase.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and draftsmen involved in the structural design and detailing process.
- Collaborate with the client, construction team, principal designer and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with nuclear safety regulations and requirements.
With a background of working within the nuclear industry or another highly heavy‑industry sector, you’ll have an established career in Civil Structural Engineering, ideally with a Masters in Civil Engineering or an equivalent relevant subject.
- Experience in structural civil work, civil design, RC detailing, steel structures with Eurocodes or other relevant codes.
- Proven experience working on the design and analysis of reinforced concrete structures for nuclear power plants, specifically with European Pressurised Reactors (EPR).
- Sound knowledge of nuclear safety principles, regulations and standards governing the design and construction of nuclear power plant structures.
