We are looking for an Associate to join the Waste Operations, Logistics, and Flows team in support of developing innovative client solutions that foster the circular economy in the built environment. The role can be based from our Bath, London, Manchester, or Edinburgh offices with hybrid working. Buro Happold’s Waste, Operations, Logistics and Flows team is comprised of diverse waste and environmental consultants who work with clients to develop bespoke solutions for waste management and goods flows.
Our team has worked on over 260 buildings and cities projects across 40 countries. A typical day includes optimising architectural designs to make the segregation, storage, and movement of goods and waste materials as efficient, resilient, and environmentally positive as possible.
The Associate will review waste and logistics strategies, waste generation calculations, back‑of‑house route planning, waste and goods storage and transport methods, and waste treatment options. The role requires extensive knowledge of the resources and waste management industry, analytical skills to evaluate complex problems, the ability to develop customised client solutions, and the integration of the latest industry standards and guidance.
Responsibilities- Provide guidance to senior consultants, consultants, and graduate consultants in the development of waste and logistics strategies with architects and engineering design teams for buildings and cities.
- Produce and review reports, presentations, models, drawings to an excellent technical standard with high detail and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with national and local policies and best practices.
- Forecast waste and goods generation.
- Appraise solutions for the storage and transportation of goods and waste.
- Plan spatial arrangements of waste and goods facilities at building and city scales, coordinating with consultants and architects.
- Explore innovative technologies and solutions for waste and goods management.
- Write technical reports and prepare bids.
- Mentor junior team members.
- Lead and manage select projects both technically and commercially.
- Collaborate across disciplines to contribute to future work winning and new service development.
- Lead the development and improvement of team processes and workload.
- Academic background in waste management, engineering, logistics, environmental science, or an equivalent field.
- Chartered membership in the applicable field.
- Extensive experience in waste management, master planning, or related fields.
- Passion for the circular economy.
