Join this collaborative project led by me, Stephen Salve Doliente, Ph.D., and co‑supervised by Rick Lupton as we contribute to the transition of the UK’s chemical industry from a fossil‑based to a low‑carbon sector by exploring the role of biomass valorisation through advanced systems modelling.

This PhD project will:

• Develop strategies for enabling a biomass‑to‑chemicals industry in the UK
• Integrate Material Flow Analysis (MFA) and Value Chain Modelling and Optimisation to understand system‑wide trade‑offs and opportunities across multiple sectors that use biomass, not just chemicals!
• Contribute to policy, business, and industry solutions for a more sustainable future

💰 Funding:
University Research Studentship Award (URSA) (open to Home and Overseas students)
⏳ Duration: 3.5 years
📅 (Sunday midnight)

A motivated candidate with a strong background in chemical engineering, process systems engineering, or sustainability‑related fields. Experience or interest in material flow analysis, value chain modelling, or optimisation techniques is highly desirable. Enthusiasm for whole‑systems thinking, interdisciplinary research, and tackling real‑world sustainability challenges is essential.
