Technical Architect – 12 Months – Up to £700pd (Inside IR35) – Onsite in Bedford

Overview

A major Defence organisation is embarking on an ambitious digital transformation programme across a highly complex blend of IT and OT systems – including National Critical Infrastructure. We are seeking an experienced Technical Architect to lead the technical vision, modernisation roadmap and multi‑classification architecture strategy.

The Role

You’ll turn discovery and BA outputs into a clear technical direction, defining what the next several years of transformation look like. This environment spans legacy 1990s‑era systems, SCADA/OT integrations and multi‑classification networks (Unclassified → Secret). Your work will directly support national‑level capability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop the end‑to‑end technical architecture and transformation roadmap
• Shape modernisation strategy across legacy IT, OT and classified environments
• Interpret BA findings into actionable technical designs
• Work across multi‑classification domains without needing separate systems
• Engage senior stakeholders across engineering, IT, security and operations
• Ensure all designs meet Defence standards and secure‑by‑design principles
• Extensive background in Defence or National Security environments
• Legacy IT + modernisation, including 1990s technologies
• IT/OT environments & SCADA‑type systems
• Knowledge of Secure by Design, JSP
