Operations Support Driver - Kempston

East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust

Have you ever wondered how you can make a difference contributing to saving lives every day? The Operations Support Directorate at the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust is a dedicated and vital support network that assists front‑line clinicians in providing excellent care to people living in the East of England, 365 days a year, 7 days a week.

This role will involve shift working, including early and late shifts, weekends and Bank Holidays. You will be responsible for the safe collection and delivery of Trust vehicles from Trust locations to workshops and other designated vehicle repairers, and for carrying out extended road tests of vehicles during both collection and delivery to ensure they are ready for use by the Trust.

  • Ensure all vehicles are driven safely and economically at all times, bearing in mind that the vehicles are easily identified as belonging to the Trust.
  • Pre‑operational checks: verify legal tyres, functioning lights, sufficient coolant, and fuel for the journey.
  • Extended road tests after any repairs at a Trust workshop or other vehicle repairer and report any defects to the Trust Workshop Supervisor or Workshop Manager before handing vehicles over to users.
  • Report faults that arise during collection or delivery to the Workshop Supervisor or Manager immediately prior to handing over the vehicle.
  • Safely keep any fuel card or mobile phone issued to you and return them before the end of your duty; report any loss or theft immediately.
  • Maintain contact with Fleet Administrators, Workshop Supervisors and Fleet Workshop Managers to inform them of your availability for work.

You will work in one of the most diverse regions in the country, with the vibrant capital city just a stone's throw away and the invigorating North Sea coast to the east. EEAST provides 24‑hour, 365‑day urgent care to those in need of emergency and non‑emergency medical treatment and transport across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. We encourage applications from under‑represented groups, including those with a disability or from the LGBTQ+ community, and support flexible working requests.
